Ethylene, propylene and polyethylene glycols
MEG, DEG, TEG, MPG and the polyethylene glycols, quoted against a grade and a written specification, in the packing you can actually receive.
- Grades
- Fibre, industrial and technical grades; pharmacopoeia-grade propylene glycol where the application requires it.
- Packing
- New and reconditioned steel or plastic drums, IBCs, flexitank and ISO tank. Drum condition is stated on the line.
- How it is quoted
- Per metric tonne or per drum, ex-works Dubai or delivered, against a named specification.
- Lead time
- Held stock and indent priced separately, with the origin stated on the quotation.
What usually goes wrong
"Glycol" is four different chemicals and a grade question. A heat-transfer buyer asking for MEG gets fibre grade at a fibre-grade price when industrial would have done the job. A personal-care formulator asking for MPG gets industrial grade where the specification needed pharmacopoeia, and the batch is rejected at incoming QC. Water content and colour usually decide whether a delivered lot is fit for the process, and they are usually the two figures missing from the enquiry.
How we handle it
We ask what the material is for before quoting a grade, and we quote against a written specification with the certificate of analysis available before shipment rather than after it. Drum condition — new or reconditioned, and the liner if there is one — is on the line, because it is a different price and a different risk. Where a lot has to meet a pharmacopoeia monograph we say plainly whether we can supply against it.
